Usman Noah on risk-to-reward and his weekly trading review
Usman Noah, who says he holds about $1.4M in funding across Apex and FTMO, explains why he thinks a strategy should fit your lifestyle before anything else. He argues that 'risk-to-reward is king' is marketing, and sets out when he uses high risk-to-reward for challenges and smaller risk with closer targets on funded accounts. He talks about the false picture social media gives of trading, how leaving survival mode changed his results and the weekly review questions he calls his 100% win rate. He also explains why he puts data ahead of psychology and how he returned from a three-month break after burnout.

Usman Noah
Usman Noah is a 35-year-old trader and former graphic designer who is introduced as having made more than $400,000 from trading and confirms he holds about $1.4M in funding across Apex and FTMO. He day trades Nasdaq with a liquidity-based strategy he says he has used since 2019 and now takes two or three trades a week.
Key takeaways
- Usman suggests working out your lifestyle before choosing a strategy: whether you suit scalping, day trading or swing trading, which session you can trade and how much risk you can handle. He says his own liquidity-based approach with high risk-to-reward suits him because he can be at his screen all day.
- He has kept the core of the same strategy since 2019. He believes every strategy works some of the time, so he sees hopping between strategies, often driven by social media trends, as a common mistake.
- He uses high risk-to-reward to pass challenges in one or two trades, then slows down once funded. He says that on his 1M Apex account he risks about 0.25% per trade for 1:3 to 1:4 targets to build a buffer.
- When he took one 1:5 trade a day, he worked on the logic that a single winning day could cover four losing days and still leave him 1R up for the week. He says those targets are reachable on Nasdaq and high-volume pairs, but staying consistent is the hard part.
- Every week he reviews which setups and conditions worked, which days or times went badly, his execution, his risk and any departures from his plan, ending with 'Why did I do better this week compared to last week?' He calls this his '100% win rate', and it led him to stop trading on Mondays and to scalp only on Fridays.
- He argues that weak trading psychology usually comes from a lack of data, so he focuses on repeating one strategy and building data rather than working on mindset. He does accept that the kind of person you are shows up in your charts.
- He says changing his environment and leaving survival mode improved his trading, and that breaks matter. After three months away following burnout, he says he returned on a live stream and was funded with 1M on Apex within about a month.

0:00Usman Noah Introduction & $1.4M Prop Firm Funding
0:00If someone is telling you that riskreward is king, this is purely marketing. Honestly, 125 riskreward is easy. On NASDAQ, you can do it. High volume pairs, you can do it in here. And maybe I'm I'm going to add one more thing. And it's bold what I'm going to say, but I will say you can have 100% win rate if you do that. Today's guest has made over $400,000 from trading and manages more than 1.4 million in prop firm funding.
0:22But according to him, none of that started with finding the perfect strategy. All you need at the end of the day is one or two trades. I'm literally the bright person to tell you this because I was funded 100K before. I went through this journey. It's your job to find one. Stick to it. What type of strategy can go to your style? Mine is liquidity based because today's guest is Noah and he dives into why understanding yourself is often more important than understanding the markets.
0:48He unpacks how you can actually choose a strategy that fits your personality and how social media creates completely unrealistic expectations of what successful trading actually looks like. Social media is the biggest fake place in the world. It doesn't want to show you the amount of losses, the emotions behind trades because this is where you make the difference and not everyone is capable to do that. You're going to walk away from this episode understanding the importance of your environment and why sometimes changing your life outside of trading can completely transform your results on the charts itself.
1:19I personally don't believe on psychology in trading. This I think this is the biggest ever why people are not succeeding on their trading journey. Most of the time what they do is let's get into it. I I want to jump straight into conversation if you don't mind. Um there's a lot that I want to unpack with you today. I think you've got a lot of experiences and insights that are going to be packed full of gems for a lot of people at home.
1:45I I want to start with I think the most recent run in in your funding because right now you've got 1.4 million in funding. I think the thing that I would be most interested to know is that if we took that all away and you had to start from day one tomorrow, no funding, what would you do differently? if you allow me to say something is that 90% of the traders fail.
2:10Right? So I feel like I'm part of this 1% for now. I don't know about the future, but for now I'm part of the 1%. And being part of the 1% is where you need to do the work to get out from this 99%. So the first thing that I will do is I'll do what the 99% people doesn't do which is for example um when I started trading I started to interest to get my head into fundamentals just because I want to be ahead from other traders.
2:44When I started trading, I started to focus on one strategy. And a lot of traders do the same mistakes all the time, which when they start one strategy, they're jumping to another one and they're jumping to another one. Not only because of the because of their failures, but also because of the what's going on on social media. Yeah. You know, like recently, I mean, couple years ago, ICT was everywhere. Now um all the books are everywhere and I'm sure that next time we're going to have something else [clears throat] and marketing is great because mark marketing makes me makes few makes you feel like this is the way of trading but in reality everyone is doing the same thing.
3:33It's wuff but rebrand into another way. It's Elliot waves rebrand into another way. It's um it's uh RSI but rebrand to another way. It's volume profile but rebrand to another way. And what I would say to people is first of all find a strategy that talks to you first. Like forget about the marketing. Just find what is align with your lifestyle. Are you a swing trader? Are you a day trader? Are you a scalper? Are you capable to manage the stress and the high dopamine of a scalper?
4:08Or are you able to focus this always like the same focus for days and weeks and hours to be a swing swing trader? First, now that you know what type of person you are, are you able to trade London, New York or Asia session? One of them or all of them? Cool. Now that you know that, what type of risk person are you? Are you a high risker? Are you a low risker? Cool. Now you've done that. What type of strategy can go to your style?
4:44Mine is liquidity based. Mine is based on our risk rewards because I have the time to be on my computer all the time. So it means that I can be on my computer, take a trade and check if my trade is going to the right place and and doing have and and get a a nice risk management etc etc. So that's why I have this type of strategy. But some others that and I'm sure that 90% of people that is watching the pod, you guys maybe have a work on a side.
5:13So maybe you want to go to maybe something a day trading. You want to find something that has a one to three,
5:26The Truth About Risk-To-Reward & Prop Firm Challenges
5:26one to four riskreward because I'm going to tell you one thing is if someone is telling you that riskreward is king, this is purely marketing. Honestly, uh I'm that guy. I do risk a reward, risk risk rewards. Uh you some people have seen it on my live stream on chess fanatic live but I'm going to be also honest the reality behind is that sometimes and most of the time when you have a higher uh fundings you will go slowly slowly to the to those one to three one to four risky rewards.
6:02Those high risky rewards are great for challenges because you can make you can pass a challenge in one or two trades. But whenever you are funded, it is time now to slow down in term of risk and in term of RR. So first of all, I would say check your lifestyle. Check what type of trader you are and after this don't jump into strategy to another strategy. I personally believe that all strategy is working.
6:27They're all working, but it's just a question of how many times, how many times the trend lines is working during the week, how many times the liquidity is working during the week, how many times uh the SMC or ICT is working during the week. And based on that, it's fine. All you need at the end of the day is one or two trades. I'm literally the right person to tell you this because I want I I I was funded 100K before.
6:52Now I'm afraid with good funings now but I went through this journey and all I say is no hate on any other strategies but at the end of the day it's your me it's your job to find one stick to it. I've been doing my strategy since 2019. Okay 2019 the same strategy. Uh obviously there is some improvement in between because you need to improve right? So, but the the core the skeleton of my strategy is the same since since
7:32Social Media, Strategy Hopping & Trading Expectations
7:322019. Yeah. So, I would say stick to one close social media. Social media is the biggest fake place in the world. Remember guys, people share what they want you to see. Okay? They want you to see certain aspect because they need to keep an aura. They they doesn't want to show you the amount of losses, the emotions behind trades, the oversaturating market and their reaction to it. Like the amount of time where I overrisisk it because I was just getting oversaturated by all the data of the market and I was like it's been two or three days.
8:12people don't talk about that. And um I would say just stick to your strategy, focus on yourself, focus on improving it. And um and maybe I'm I'm going to add one more thing. And it's bold what I'm going to say. Okay. It's very bold. Hit me. I'm ready. But I would say you can have a 100% win rate if you do that. Interesting. Why people fail? Why people are not succeeding on their trading journey most of the time what they do is okay I'm going to start trading I mean we all start like this EML marketing you know the EML or MLM or signals so we all start from there we all start I started from MLM AML and my um and um my friend at that time he said like hey brother look at this option trading eating.
9:16It's crazy. You can make so much money. And I'm like, "Yeah, yeah, really? Let me try." And I've made like a couple of money and I was like, "Wow, this is so nice so quick." So, um, so from there I was, so we all go through this like the first thing is money. How much money I can make? And wow. Okay. Nice. And after this phase, you're getting into this realization of oh wow, we can also lose that much.
9:41I remember calling my wife my girlfriend at that time crying saying that I've lost uh um 1,400 pound in one trade on gold crying about it and I like I said I will never do this mistake again promise um this will be the last time obviously I did this many times after so the question is phase one money cool from there are you truly in love with trading and this is where you can see now the difference between the the guy that is only here for money and the guys that are actually here for the challenge.
10:19Yeah. Um and when you are passed through this phase one, you're going to pass through phase two. Okay. Now, let's start trading. And now you're like, wow, chartings, learning those new skills, learning fundamentals, making sacrifices. Do I'm built for this? M am I built for this? Yeah. And that's why 99% of people fail at that certain point because now they're like money was so easy but now I can see the reality. So the question in here is are you capable mentally to have this cardio of learning without having any money back?
10:56Are you capable of just putting pose on your success? Pose on the money that you can make, pose on on on all of the people around you, having a 9-to-f5 business, going to holidays, going increased sal having an increase of salaries, having after 5:00 p.m. just having dinner and playing FIFA on their computer and on on on PS5 and playing a GTA and etc, etc. and you behind you are like grinding working and during the weekend no holidays and you're going to see your wife or your girlfriend or your parents and be like listen I have no money for now but wait if you have this mentality welcome welcome to the one person because this is where the work is because this is where you make the difference and not everyone is cap capable to do that and that's why I I'm fine of people giving up at a certain point because the end goal is to be happy, right?
11:59Of course. And if you can't and you are happy to do a 9 to5, go to the 9 to5. He's fine. Honestly, when I see my my brother-in-law, he's coming back from work. He's chilling after. He's chilling. He's fine. I'm I'm watching my phone. I'm like, Nas is dying. You were talking about dinner. I'm looking for a new opportunity right now. Why are you talking to me? Just so Yes. So that's the the the the the advice, okay?
12:33Is find yourself. What type of traders are you? Stick to one strategy. Build the mentality card you for it because the the the way the the way is not going to be easy. There will be waves. Yeah. Are you able to come back stronger? And not everyone can do that. Yeah. Not everyone can do that.
12:56100%. Okay. Let's take a quick break here and I want to tell you about a prop firm that's actually trusted and proven to pay their traders. There's only one name you need to know about. It's Traderify. You see, Traderify Futures is one of the most trusted names in the industry. They've had consistent and stable operations over the last few years and they've paid out over $125 million to traders. The best part about doing business with them is there's no hidden rules. There's no denied payouts.
13:21As long as you hit your objectives, you get paid. It's pretty simple. Now, here's what Traderify gives you that actually matters as a trader. They've got flexible plans in place that you can get paid out daily. You've got the ability to pass evaluations in just a single day. And if you don't even want to mess around with evaluations, they've got instant funding plans as well.
13:38Honestly speaking, their dashboard is one of the best in the game. They've got an in-built journaling process that allows you to trade, track, and improve your results over time. That's how real consistency is built. Now, before we get back to the episode, I want to share a massive update. Traderify 247 has officially launched. This is going to give you better pricing for cryptofunded accounts and you're also trading with institutional liquidity from exchanges like Binance, OKX, and Bybit.
14:03This is honestly giving you the best trading conditions possible. On top of that, the payout setup is simple. Ondemand payouts. If you hit your objectives, you get paid. It's as simple as that. I personally think regardless of whether you trade futures or crypto, Tradeify is the move to make. and make sure you use the code PFT at checkout to make sure that you get the best deal available. Links in the description below. That beautifully put. I I think you've unpacked so much in there that I want to unpack bit by bit.
14:27And I love the fact that you actually started this with you have to understand yourself because I think a lot of people they miss that, right? what you see that is promoted and pushed online which is I have this secret strategy which gives you the secrets to the market and if you just learn to do what I do and only I know this you will unlock all the [ __ ] money in the world and it it just doesn't work that way for most people and it's not because necessarily the strategy doesn't work but it's because it doesn't work for the person and that's something that a lot of people miss so the fact that you started with that I think was perfectly put and something that a lot of people definitely need to hear.
15:02Um
15:07Win Rate vs Risk-To-Reward
15:07the second thing that you mentioned about the the strategy right and focusing on finding something that you can be consistent with uh and you mentioned and I I there's something that I want to pick your brains on a little bit which is you mentioned you specifically have that approach which is focused on risk-to-reward. The one thing that I think is not spoken about enough online is that risk-to-reward and win rate are often inversely correlated. So where you will see a lot of people that will show a really nice chart online and they've caught a you know 1 to 10 and they've made all this money from it and passed a challenge in one go there's probably also three four five you know six other trades that they've lost prior to sharing that that never get shown online right so I I guess the question that I have for you is there's a big debate or battle between people between which is better is it better to have a higher win rate with a lower risk-to-reward or higher risk to reward board but accept a lower win rate.
15:59Do you think one's better than the other? Both. Both. It depend of the um situation you are. Okay. So let's Okay. Let's open this book. So you are into a challenge phase. Okay. So in here you want to have high high risk rewards because less trade you are taking quantity or quality over quantity in here. Okay. because you want to maintain a good psychology in this even though that's another outtake. I personally don't believe on psychology in trading.
16:36This I think this is the biggest [ __ ] ever and we can talk about this after. Yeah. Uh but in reality the challenges you want to put the high risk uh the high risk rewards. Okay. Um but again it depend of your account. if you have let's say 100k accounts um and for your quality of life I don't know your uh financial situation but if if let's say you are okay about losing a 100k account any day every day I would say having uh a high risk reward can be interesting but if let's say you are someone that is crazy to have 100k I would say just build piece after piece one to three, one to four, risky reward is great.
17:18Create a buffer, create confidence, create a structure, go slow. Um, for example, on my 1.4 million on my 1 million on Apex, I'm not going to go crazy on 1% risk, 0.5% risk. I'm literally going to go to the 0.25% 25% risk one to three one to four risk reward build buffer get confidence and I I will be in peace now if let's say you are in draw down and you are like minus 3 or 4% it means that trades that you are taking right now are not going into your direction.
18:00So maybe in here quality it's better than quantity. So having a high risk reward could be more beneficial at that moment. But at the same time, some people will say that yes, but if you have a tight stop-loss, it means that you have a higher chance to touch your stop-loss. And if you have a bigger TP, it means that you have less chance to reach your TP. But at the same time if you go to the other way you have one to three one to four risky reward you have less chance to reach your TP and you have a higher chance to reach your uh you have less chance to reach your stop loss and you have a higher chance to reach your TP both are correct at a at certain point so it's more about of you how are you psychologically are you okay if you're okay let's go for the high risk risk reward.
18:59If you feel down, if you feel down, if you feel like you're not into a very good spirit and you are like in a to a fighting mode, I would say brick by brick one to two, one to three, one to four risky reward is great. So that's why for me there is no answer for it. It all depend on but one thing is for sure is like you need to have a heavy bolts to have one million accounts and be looking into only one to five risky reward.
19:27Yeah. Because again you have more chances to reach your stop-loss. It means more stop-loss. Yes, your TP will be amazing but more stop losses, more break evens and few TP. Are you willing to do that? There was um I had a conversation with a trader probably I think it was about six months or so ago and it it wasn't designed to be some big teaching lesson but what he said really opened my perspective and I'll give you some context.
20:05I'm a swing trader by nature. Um I generally favor or I have a lower win rate higher risk-to-reward on some of the trades that I take. this trader is a scalper and he scalps the equity market and he focuses on a negative risk-to-reward. And I was like, interesting. So, for every $100 he's risking, he's looking to make maybe $50. And this immediately would piss a lot of people off, right? But what he said about it actually made a lot of sense.
20:36And it it really loops back into exactly what you said, which is he said he started off as a swing trader, and he found that naturally aiming for the higher risk-to-reward, having the lower win rate didn't work so well for him in terms of his psychology. He couldn't handle the subsequent losses in a row without going on tilt and doing something stupid. And that made him more inconsistent in what he did. So he said whilst now maybe when he has a loss which inevitably he will have it takes out maybe one two winners maybe three winners depending on his average gain versus average loss overall but the fact that he is more consistent his win rate remains in the 70 80%.
21:14He goes, "That's much better for his psychology." And that's how he was able to find consistency. And I was like, "That's interesting." Like, I've never in all the years that I've been doing this, I've never toyed with the idea of negative risk-to-reward. And it's got almost this like bad reputation online. Like, we're always taught coming in, you have to maximize your winners.
21:32You have to push your winners hard and keep your losses as small as possible. Nobody ever teaches it the other way around. But it goes back to everything you said, which is you have to find what works for you as a person, right? Exactly. Exactly. Because that's why how like course sellers are making so much money. That's the reason why because people just want to be the next Fabio Valentini. People wants to be the next ICT guy. People wants to be the next big trader.
21:58But in reality, who are you, bro? Like it's you first. What type of person are you? H and based on the type of person you are, you're gonna be you will find a strategy that fits your that is that is fitting your lifestyle that is fitting your psychology that is fitting your vision that etc etc like you're a swing trader you became a swing trader but I'm sure you did some scalping before of course everyone does yeah and you realize that actually it was not your style
22:32Usman’s 1:5 Risk-To-Reward Approach
22:32of trading now you have you're more in peace with swing trading In my side, I take uh two or three trades a week and I'm in peace with it. When in the past, I used to take one trade a day, one to five riskreward every day. M and my logic behind which is actually is a good logic you can you guys can try at home is when you take one trade with one to five risk or reward with a high volume um pair even if you make one profit day in the week you are still profitable end of the week because if let's say Monday uh TP 1 to5 Five.
23:14Nice. Okay. Tuesday stop loss. Yeah. Wednesday stop loss. Thursday stop-loss. Uh Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. So even at the end of the week, I still have one R left and you people can try one riskreward is easy on NASDAQ. You can do it on I used to trade GJ high volume pairs. You can do it in here. Everything that has a high uh volume, it's easy to make one to five risk reward. It's not easy to stay consistent. It's not easy to take your psychology and just say and just tell to yourself one stop loss a day, no more done.
24:02Okay. Okay. Let's do it. But it it come with with experience. It's come with with experience. I but I I've always found that I don't think there's any part to trading which is ever all easy. Right? I I've always said it best as you have to choose the [ __ ] that you are willing to deal with. It doesn't matter if you want to be a scalper or a swing trader or a long-term investor.
24:26Every approach that you take comes with some type of pain that you have to deal with. And I think the question is not which one eliminates pain. It's which one brings me the pain that I'm willing to accept. Yeah. I think that okay now the part is taking another uh another journey now because yeah I think I nowadays I feel like emotion is a luxury that is not present on social media anymore or is not present on any type of person anymore because we are so busy on scrolling we are so busy on doing our daily I was l I got a new haircut by the way guys this morning uh I'm Not I'm not the type of influencer that you guys like.
25:08I I see myself as a geek. As a geek of trading. So going to the haircut, I'm doing a favor for you. You guys, you don't want to see a homeless person. Honestly, um I'm very introvert. So um and and and I love people if they see me to see me as a geek because the amount of hours that I spend on trading is ridiculous based on other influencers.
25:41The difference is between where I am now, me and the me 10 years ago, I mean couple years ago, is that at that time my pain was just only I feel like I'm built for something bigger, but I'm just a graphic designer. M my parents my parents left Pakistan for a better life for us four brothers and I got the same DNA of am I doing the job right now that will sustain my wife and my and my kids from there the pain the frustration started to came because I'm like screwing on social media and I see everyone happy and I'm sure you guys are and we all in the same boat to be very honest and at a certain point it's just about you sitting down and just today am I willing to sacrifice couple of years for the me in 10 years and I'm going to tell you one thing guys and I would I would say don't listen to what I preach the way that I talk all the time is based on the mistake that I'm making I've done so many mistakes in my life I'm 35 and I have so many white hair is
26:51the reason behind least you've still got hair all right sorry that but the I don't like preaching because who I am I'm a son of God at the end of the day I have no value like I don't like but I did so many mistakes and now one thing that I would say for the youngers is don't listen what the society is telling you right now which is enjoying life when you're young drugs alcohol when you're young honestly I feel like an old uncle but let me tell you one thing is that right now I'm 35 five.
27:26I can't do overnight. I can't do like an entire night without sleeping. I have palpitations. Uh if I run outside, I'm I'm going to have pain on my joints because of the lifestyle that I used to have before. And what I want to say to the people outside is you're 18. If you are a normal person, okay, if no, if nobody like if you're a normal person, which is majority of people, you you should be hungry of success on how you can be like your dad on or your parents or how you don't want to be like your parents.
28:04Use your trauma as a as um as a motivation. I'm going to tell you one trauma. I still remember telling to my mom, being angry at my mom, not giving bringing me uh pala and orange juice at school because I can I could see all the white people bringing this to their kids. My mom couldn't tell me that we don't have money. Yeah. So, I was hungry to I was pissed off on my parents.
28:34Why are you guys giving me this life? I didn't ask for it. like I want this pak it's not fair. So from this trauma you take it and you see whenever you have a son you have a you build your building your family or even if you are young and you see your parents and you see the scars you start to you need to see you need to start thinking of okay it is time now as I'm young and healthy to make the sacrifice that I need to make because they have done the same to me but I couldn't see it before.
29:09trading is is is easy when you pass this phase where it's not easy and I that's why I understand why people give up and I'm cool with it but you need to have this certain of mentality this black and white mentality this mentality of ego you need to have ego in this industry you need to have a mentality of main character you need to have this mentality of I'm going to prove everyone that I'm the one in the family.
29:41I'm the youngest. I needed to prove to the older one that yes, take me seriously. And I'm sure that a lot of people can see themsel in this this journey. If you can't prove to your brothers, prove to people around you. If you can if you can't prove to people around you, prove to your parents. And yeah, I've I've been through this this at this entire phase. I went through a burnout also. But at a at a certain point, I did this mistake of doing stuff when I was older.
30:18But for the people listening, please do it when you were young because um you are limitless. You don't know what burnout is when you are 18, 19, 20. I love this generation honestly. They I am talking with people and they're like I started training how old are you 20? Oh, brother, keep doing. Please, please don't do like I did. Please, brother. Yeah, I'm 35. I'm still working my ass off because I didn't took life seriously before. I took life seriously when I was 26, 27.
30:55You did the same Tony Robbins events. I went to these Tony Robbins events. Everything started to shift in my head. And um yeah, but at 26, I used to have a,000 pony in my account. M so when I hear people at 20 I'm like pres this is so much a blessing to hear that and I I hope and I push people take take your life like focus on your life as early as possible because with the best mindset in the world even though 35 we're still young.
31:25Yeah of course but in reality your body will give you limits even though your mindset is like no limit. Yeah,
31:39The Reality Behind Trading Influencers & Payouts
31:39100%. I I want to pick on one thing you said there, which is we were talking about this idea of kind of like the main character energy and the need to not the need but the desire to prove yourself to those around you, right? And how that aspect plays out in trading because I actually think that translates to a lot of what we see in social media. You know how everyone is flashing the payout certificates and the highs and only the good things that we tend to see online.
32:05And I think I don't know if that's people projecting their need to prove that they can do what they say they can do, but it creates a little bit of a false expectation or reality for everybody else. Yes, exactly. So do you think that social media like trading in the space of social media do you think it's inherently been a positive thing or a negative thing for the development of traders? Um, so [clears throat] as I told you, I used to work with different profilms before, so I've worked with countless um of influencers.
32:41Um, I've I've watched their content so many times like, you know, to get the perfect hook, to get the perfect content, to get the perfect the perfect the perfect and that's the issue. They are looking to give you the perfect all the time. They give you they are trying to give you the force narrative. However, the force narrative is always also the first step. You know, on the stream, people say, "Oh, people are just here for the signals." And I'm like, "I'm I don't hate.
33:17I don't hate." If they are here for the signals, be be here. It's your home. Sit down, have a have a watch, like and subscribe, obviously, but look, you know why? It's just because by doing this first step, they're going to see the the the brights of the beautiful stuff. And they're going to get interested. Yeah. And after this, it's all based on you. Yeah. Are you now willing to do the job?
33:44Is the real thing is now. Yeah. So I would say like I don't have any hate on influencers. They the guys obviously when you are an influencer, it means that you are promoting something behind always. always it can be a company, it can be your product, it can be yourself. So you are promoting something. So it means that you need to have an aura. So it means that you need to showcase everything that is everything is good. But with this there is a dream and it's up to us to not be naive and to be like okay this medal this trophy looks amazing but it is my job now to to see what is behind and am I willing to take this risk this risk am I ready that's up to people no you know like at the end of the day yeah it depend of the people so yes I'm I'm fine I'm fine it's just like um Just don't fake your payouts.
34:40Yeah. You know, don't fake don't fix your um your um your life. Honestly, I mean, I can understand. Fake it until you make it. I get it. Uh I can understand if you fake it, profit will come to you. Um and it's easy money, etc., etc. But, uh it's up to us to see from the small details. Yeah. But I'm I'm I'm cool with people sharing um the the good stuff only. If that can just do the first step, that's the main thing. Yeah.
35:16Yeah. Watch. Do you love it? Do the first step. Now you enjoyed. Are you willing to do the work? Yeah. That's it. There's a there's such a beautiful quote that I heard. I don't know if you've come across it. And it says something like, "Everyone wants to go to heaven, but nobody wants to die. I have another quote for you, my friend. Hit me. I have so many quotes actually. I love I love I love quotes.
35:41I'm the same. I have one that says, "No tree, it is said can grow to heaven unless unless it roots reach down to hell." I like that. I like that. But it's I mean it's so true. It encompasses everything that you've spoken about there which is people look at the social the things they see on social media and they immediately want the goal but they they don't take that second step to look at what did that person have to do to actually achieve it right and they don't think about that element they don't think about the hours the failures everything that have gone into making those sacrifices to make the end goal possible and I think that's the part that most people are missing and that's the the selfish side of me that I wish more people would showcase a little bit online.
36:31If they showcase the highs as well as this is all the [ __ ] that has to happen in order for you to be able to achieve it, then I think people can then make a more informed decision. Yeah. But it doesn't sell it. Yes. Trading trading brother trading is I don't know for you but 90% of my time it's either boring stress yes and if I'm putting this into social media yeah I'm sure that people watching right now they are like it doesn't make me want to trade like with the way he's talking right now the but I'm doing a favor for you guys if you're looking into this podcast and you are like wow okay this is all it takes and you are still like I'm willing to do it.
37:15Welcome to the one person because not everyone has the the potential, the body, the mindset to do that. But yeah, on social media like I lost 3K, I lost this, I lost I'm depressed. It doesn't sell. What it sell is look at this. You pay out with this one and blah blah blah. 100%. Um
37:39How Your Environment Impacts Your Trading
37:39I want to pivot the conversation slightly. There is uh something that we actually spoke about that I think is really important for aspiring traders to focus on and that I think is the impact or the importance of your environment. I think this has a huge impact on people's mentality subsequently their ability to be consistent to perform. I know you've obviously been on a little bit of a journey with this. Talk to me about your perspective on how the environment arounds you around you shapes your dayto-day and and your ability to do well.
38:13So I moved to London for my wife and um one thing that I've started to realize is that when I was in London I was starting a new life. So I was always into this surviving mode. And one thing that people don't realize is that we are into different stage. We are either into a surviving mode uh where we always trying to survive and we are always trying to react on stuff rather than just taking stuff as a blessing and just enjoying life. And the bad thing is that when you are into this surviving mode, which is honestly like majority of people, I like I said before, I I got a haircut this morning.
38:57I was talking with a guy. He was 25. He said to me, I I'm working six days a week. I'm going to the gym. When I'm back to the gym, I'm I'm preparing food and I don't have time for myself. And I'm like, this is what society wants, my brother. M he wants you to be weak, busy for for them not to have time for yourself to get to do something crazy because at the end of the day we have so much potential.
39:22And what happened is that when you are in London or into those busy big cities, you're not living into your journey. You are living to the wave of the city. So you are in always in today's wow life is expensive. No. my my friends are going outside for a beer. I need to go outside now. You know, social code. Um, so you are into this surviving mode. So now if you are younger, you are you're a young guy and you're starting trading, you are like, okay, I want to be successful because I'm not making enough money and I have this stress and surviving surviving surviving.
40:06So there's two good there is one good thing and but one bad thing with surviving mode which is surviving push you. So you need to do more and more push you and to do more and reach new levels. The other one that nobody talks is now that it's part of your DNA you only know about surviving. You don't know about being in peace. Yeah. All you know is about surviving is when you reach peace, you're self-sabotaging yourself. Trading is exactly the same. You're [snorts] learning how to trade.
40:40It looks good. It's amazing. And now you're starting to self-sabotage yourself because you're still convincing yourself that I'm still learning. You know, uh it's been three months, four months only. I'm making that much of money. No, no, no. That's not normal. There is um a psychology aspect um in trading. Imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome. Yeah, imposter synd. Um and that's why people struggle because they are learning into a way where it's not structured. It goes everywhere and then whenever they start to see profit, everything looks good.
41:20But you're used to survive. You're used to stress you and now is everything is so good. You're going to start inconsciously to do some self-sabotaging move. And now when you grow up and now it's been years, you start to see some good stuff happening more often, bad stuff less. And um and now this is where you start to enjoy life and you're stop stop doing you're stopped doing a you know this surviving mode that I love to say.
41:57So my surrounding was exactly the same at the beginning. Surviving mode London and um and after this I said enough is enough. Um I got a son, I got a kid. I started to see something different. Honestly, all it needs is one shocking event, positive or negative. Yeah. Positive for me was having a son. For some reason, for I don't know why, but I couldn't see myself having a son. I I for some reason I always convinced myself that I will be dead before 35.
42:33I don't know why but for my entire life life. So I I always said to myself I will die I would die before I would never have a son and kids. So when I have a kid, I was like, whoa, I'm alive. And now I'm like, and this is where I've started to realize, am I into this surviving mode all the time, but I've just never realized. And I'm, trust me, when I started to think about blessings and I started to enjoy and I started to see like all the good stuff around me, my trading journey skyrock.
43:11It went to another level. Not so many people can get funding with Apex 1 million from only three trades. Two attempts. I mean one attempt I failed second I I I've succeeded everything on live stream nothing like I do on the side live stream in front of everyone documented just it's I'm doing it because now I'm taking the blessings it's easy I don't see the noise I'm focused Portugal is amazing no distraction focus on my family focus on me and now I feel good with myself I feel good on spending time with myself.
43:50The me that I used to smoke weed before because I didn't want it to face all the bad things that I have in my life and and all the thing that I didn't wanted to face today. I'm like this with my brain and I think like whenever you are like this with your brain in even in the trading aspect. So do you do you think it's possible to change
44:18The Weekly Process Usman Says Can Transform Your Trading
44:18your environment without actually moving? Because one of the things you mentioned there was like the element of focusing on blessings, right? I I think about that in terms of gratitude. Do you think it's possible to stay in the same environment physically but by shifting the mindset you can move out of that survival mode? Okay, perfect. Perfect. Okay, perfect question. And I will say for those people who are watching right now, you can ignore all the parts if you want, but there is one thing that I'm going to be very specific that I said before 100% win rate.
44:46If you do that is you need to ask yourself the right question in for you to progress. Okay? You can stay where you are. You can have the same lifestyle that you have. But what you need to do is whenever you start trading and you want to be better, you need to make sure that you're improving every week. Okay? So, uh the question that you need to ask yourself is what didn't worked well? So, what's was there a specific type of trade that performed well?
45:23And if well, if yes, which one did and didn't? M because you need to see the good trades out of the bad trades. Identify were there a particular market condition that suited your strategy? Which conditions didn't? Because you need to know where it is optimized for me to trade and not to trade. That's why I don't trade on Mondays and that's why I scalp only on Friday because based on that data for some reason for me it work there a specific day or time of the day where you perform where your performance was poor because again if you are a morning guy if you wake up at 5 you may I mean London session may be the best one but if you're working like you have a high intensity work during the day maybe end of the day uh can be the best suitable for you but again we don't know at the beginning we are not profitable so everything that we know is not right you're unprofitable so what you know right now is not correct so you need to learn so the next question is about trade execution oh my god it's very hot
46:48today I don't know if you sweating for you guys you see me sweating I don't know if we can see But it's very warm in UK. Um, so sorry, I apologize for it. Trade execution. Did you enter your trades too early or too late? Did you take profit too early or too late? It sounds so easy, but there is a patterns every time. Identify these patterns. If it's positive, reinforce. If it's if it's a negative pattern pattern, delete as soon as possible.
47:17So those questions will help you um to get better every week. Then other one is risk management. Are you uh are your stop-loss too tight? Did you take trades with poor risk risk-to-reward ratios? Did you take do you uh did you risk too much on your trades? Uh or did you risk too little in your trades? And you need to ask to your to yourself why and why and why. The other one is about following your plan. Did you miss any trade?
47:50If so, why? Did you deviate from your trading plan? If so, why? And what was the outcome? And the last one is for more uh let's say recurrent problems, what is the problem? Why do I have this problem? What is the solution? And how can I implement this that solution consistently? Because for me, and that's a quote I have on my notes, to become a better trader, ask yourself this question every week.
48:21Why did I do better this week compared to last week? Nice. And for me, that's a 100% win rate behind because what you're doing every week is highlighting what is good, reinforce, what is bad, deletes. What? So, one of the questions I was going to ask is firstly, how often do you ask these? But you said already weekly. based on the answers that you get and the patterns that you start to identify when is the right time to actually start making those refinements because and I I asked this purely from the sense of you're going to have some weeks where sometimes you might do all of the right things and the market is just not in your favor and we will think of that more as just randomness rather than actrical statistical probabilities in line with your edge and inversely you'll have weeks where sometimes you do the wrong things and you get rewarded Ed for that and if you're looking at that and saying that was a good trade look how much money I made and then saying that was a good thing you might see it as a bad so you need that larger sample size right so what is the right time to take those reflections and actually start
49:26Why Usman Doesn’t Believe In Trading Psychology
49:26refining and tweaking as part of your plan what's the plan for me to do that my plan is to get data okay okay more data I have more I'm going to be confident and that's why I say I don't believe in psychology in trading maybe at the beginning is good but to be be very honest, psychology in trading is the best marketing tool for all the course seller.
49:44Because at the end of the day, your psy psychology is weak because you don't have enough data. Because if you are taking 10,000 trades, you're already doing a a bad job. If you are taking one to five trades a week, which is one trade a day, it's easy to do this work every week. So now, step two, data. Every week I'm doing this. I'm reinforcing what is good, deleting what is bad. Cool. I have only one strategy to sit down because again, if you do this and you're jumping to a strategy to another strategy to another strategy, it doesn't work.
50:22Yeah. So, one strategy, cool, one strategy doing this every week. What the outcome? The outcome is that you do this all the time. It means that now you can see patterns that is happening all the time in the market. Sometimes it will not happening. Sometimes it will it will work. Sometimes you got going to be on NAS nothing is happening. And what you're doing right now is that you are reinforcing your data. You are reinforcing your eyes to see exactly the same thing all the time.
50:57That's why I don't believe on psychology. M I have I've I've recorded and that's again I have data 10,000 hours of trading because I used to have a small community of French people and I used to do like case studies market analysis um so when you do case studies and market analysis you back up with data all the time so there's no room for psychology questions so question you do this one strategy You back up with data.
51:30Check up with the patterns. Do you have the same patterns all the time? If yes, it means that you are reinforcing your strategy. Well done. Because if you don't see this pattern this week, it's not because you're a bad trader. It's actually because you are a good trader and now you can see what the market is telling you and not what the what and not what you want from the market. Because the during the live stream I always say I I know directly in the first second if we're going to have an opportunity today or no.
52:01I don't know for you but I know directly today is going to be a boring day. Yes or no? I know directly because I've done charts so many times that I know those patterns. I know the volume. I know the volume that I want to see. I know the patterns that I want to see. And and that work on your third eye. We say your instinct. Yeah. So one last thing on on that point is you know when you're not profitable your third eyes just only know what is unprofitable.
52:32Yeah. Okay. Your third eyes is basically your subconscious your instinct. So how do you work on that? By doing exercises doing the same thing all the time. When you brush your teeth automatically this hand. When you go to work, you don't even watch the GPS always. You just go or eyes closed, you know. Yeah. Yeah. Because you always do the same thing. You know the patterns that you're looking for. Same in trading. But people doesn't want to do that.
53:06It's boring. It's boring to do always the same thing. Yeah. All they want is dopamine. So that's why I'm I'm I'm I'm telling you psychology in trading is not something that I believe. What I believe in is in on data. Keep doing the same thing. Reinforce it. Delete what is wrong. Reinforce. And you will see at a certain point you're just going to know today is a good day or today is a bad day.
53:31And if today is a bad day, chill. Yeah. Yeah. Chill. I I this is an interesting take because I don't know how much you know of me. I'm a big psychology guy. Oh no. The pun is over. We're done. We're done. No, no, no. What I'm saying is like you the psychology at the beginning super important. I 100% agree. So here here's my take, right? Here's my thought.
53:55No, no, no. It's not a bad thing at all. I love the debate. I love the debate. I actually agree with a lot of what you say, right? Largely because I think the vast majority of people that experience psychological problems is all because they don't have the right expectations because they don't have data. The moment you fix that problem, a lot of the problems will disappear or it will at least expose what's really sitting beneath the surface. For me, the deepest problems that I help people with or I talk to people about, it's limiting beliefs that were instilled from like childhood.
54:27The majority of the things that people struggle with in trading, they're like surface level problems and they can be fixed with more data. So, I I actually largely agree with everything that you say there. Right. So we we don't need to feel about this. He's getting so nervous. I swear. But the thing is I mean the people what they are talking about psychology in trading is just because they that doesn't want to do the work behind. Okay. Yeah.
54:54But there is one aspect of psychology is just about yourself. Yeah. The way that you are will will reflect in your charts. Agree. That's 100%. Agree. Okay. I know like one guy said I'm not going to say his name. Oh, you never seen a one profitable trader that is not fat. I'm one. Okay. What I'm saying is there is discipline on something else. Yeah. I have discipline on the way that I work on the way that I I I'm for example like I used to be a semi-professional in Counter Strike.
55:30Okay. So, I have discipline there apparently. Yeah. Yeah. I used to be one of the top player in League of Legend in one guy only like one character in the world. I it means that I used to be quite disciplined in that game. Yeah. And uh and I used to be one of the best badminton player when I was young. I used to the only thing is my focus was not in the right place.
55:55Yeah. So I'm asking you are you good on something? Extremely good on something. If that the case, it means that you just need to shift your energy into trading because you have the capability. Fair. Noah, it's been a an interesting interesting conversation. There's so many things that I know. I know. We could go on for probably another two or three hours from here. Do you think it was a good part? Yeah, it's been good. Bro, you don't like it?
56:25Um the thing is like I'm not confident when I talk like the way that I know I do a lot of tunnels. You know tunnels is the expression of you go into this long conversation. Yeah. Because I talk to myself so much like in Portugal I don't have traders around me so and I'm not into this like vast community big community. So a lot of things that I do is sitting down with myself and talking to myself and I go long on those conversations.
56:53I never read any books related to trading. I I never in my life never read any books about trading and I I've done I've done quite good right now. I'm doing quite good. So sorry if I it was a bit too long.
57:14Apex vs FTMO & Trader Quickfire
57:14Not all not all. I I have a couple more segments that I want to do before we wind down. Right. I towards the end of every episode I have a couple of things that I like to do with every guest. One of them is nice and easy quickfire questions just hot takes on specific subjects. The other one I will explain we call confessions of a trader.
57:31Okay. So I'll go through both. Right. We'll start with the uh the quickfire. Um I know you are 1.4 million funded. Yes. Across Apex and FTMO. Yes. If you had to pick one, Apex or FTMO? Uh, Apex. Apex. Okay. Um, swing trading or day trading? Day trading. Would you prefer one large account or multiple small accounts? Uh, multiple of small accounts. Nice. Um, do you think anybody can become a profitable trader? I'm [snorts] the living experience.
58:08Honestly, I used to be the dumbest student in school. Nice. Um, last one for you. What's the biggest lie that all unprofitable traders are telling themselves? There's so many. The first one is that we don't deserve the life that we can have from trading. I like that. The other one is if the if they've done it is because of so it's because of their connection in in the industry and I don't have it and I would never be those guys. Obviously there is one that is I would never be profitable but but yeah that's cool.
58:46I like that. All right. Um last
58:55Confessions Of A Trader: Burnout, Breaks & Freedom
58:55segment. Like I said we call this confessions of a trader. So, this has been basically taken from tons of conversations that I've had with traders over the years and I've culminated this into a think of this as a trader confessing something to you about their journey and they want your advice, your experience, your wisdom to help them through this moment or this challenge. Okay. So today's confession of a trader. This person says, "I feel guilty taking time away from the charts because I think successful traders work harder than I do.
59:26Is taking breaks actually important or am I just lazy?" Okay, so we still have a bit of time. Okay. Um [clears throat] I've done good when I was always on the charts. Um but one thing is I didn't wanted to have a break but last year my son almost died. Um and that lead to into a burnout. So basically October hospital November hospital but my son was back to health healthy December I think I was just burning from all of this.
1:00:08So burnout and I haven't traded for three months and that has been the longest two or three months. Longest time in my life. Wow. Why I never trade. Super happy because no stress but I didn't trade. Uh I started when I started to live stream on Charles Fanatic live literally I I think I said to Re like just give me two weeks. Let me get back to trading two weeks before and I will be back in the game. And um it's been like what one or one months that I've been trading on charts charts fanatic life and I'm funed with one million on apex.
1:00:50I think the paradox I think this is the right word paradox of people is that more they are on charts more they are intelligent and more they will get results. Yeah, at the end of the day, our brain is is a muscle, brother. Relax, chill, and come back. And also, what the point of being on charts all the time if the main purpose at the beginning was freedom. Spot on. Yeah, I completely agree with you.
1:01:22I I think the problem is most people feel like they should be doing something. They feel like they have to be doing something to be working and surviving. Yeah, surviving mode. Honestly, now every time when I see my son, which is I don't know, for some reason it make me emotional all the time, but I'm happy. And this happiness is coming back to my charts because now I'm like, what a good day today. Let's see if we have any good trades. My mentality before was like, I need to get funded.
1:01:53So, I need to find a trade. Yeah. You see, even in my tone was different. And yes, whenever you start to be like now I'm charting a lot and I feel like just wait a second. Don't don't fall into this trap. You are doing trading for freedom initially. Yeah. Yeah. So go get some blessings and get back to your chart after. I love it. Perfectly put, man. Noah, it's been a pleasure. Thank you so much, man. Thank you for the energy, the wisdom, the gems.
1:02:27Honestly, I think there's gonna be a lot to take away for the viewers watching this, man. I hope I hope honestly I hope I have no clue of what I said, but I'm still I'm I don't know. Of course, I can say, but I'm I'm live streaming on Chaz Fanatic live. So, if people have any question, I I I'm trying not to be that guy of pre preaching stuff to be that guy. So I'm I'm trying to give knowledge bait on based on my mistakes because I really don't want people to be on my situation.
1:02:58If they are younger than me, I would just say like just guys just just go for it. And I'm I'm just going to be the voice that can help you do the first step or second step and and that's it. And know the good thing is I'm not selling any course. I'm not selling anything. That's so there's no like nothing bad behind. It's just me like I've done so many bad thing when I was younger.
1:03:23Now I'm not going to through go through this podcast. So the entire goal for me is just to be I I have a debt. I need to b my debt to God right now. So that's that's why I'm trying to help people. Let's put it that [clears throat] way. I love it, man. Thank you so much, bro. I really appreciate the time. Thank you. Right, guys and girls. That is another episode in the bag.
1:03:45As always, we want to hear from you. What was your biggest takeaway from today's episode?
