Funded Account
A funded account is a trading account backed by a prop firm's capital, granted after a trader passes an evaluation phase or purchases instant funding. The trader keeps a share of profits earned while following the firm's risk rules, rather than risking personal money.
Why it matters
Reaching funded status is the entire point of paying for a challenge: it marks the shift from covering evaluation fees to receiving payouts. But the funded stage carries its own conditions, including loss limits, minimum activity requirements, and reset policies, and these determine how long an account stays open and how soon a trader can actually withdraw.
Live data
Example
A trader completes a two-step evaluation, meeting the trading objectives set for each phase. After the final phase, the firm runs KYC verification and a risk department review of the trading history. Once approved, a trader contract is issued and account access is activated, at which point the account is considered funded and eligible to enter the firm's withdrawal cycle.
Common misconception
Traders often assume a funded account behaves like a personal live account with no oversight. In reality, risk departments actively monitor strategies, and if a trading style is flagged as posing higher risk to the firm's capital, temporary risk measures can be applied while the trader retains program access. Many also assume funded accounts can be reset the way evaluation accounts can. Across the firms we've reviewed, most funded accounts cannot be reset once breached, so a breach typically ends that account rather than pausing it. Some firms also route new funded traders through a simulated funded stage before any transition to a live brokerage account.

Risk disclaimer: Trading carries a substantial risk of loss and is not suitable for everyone. Prop-firm evaluations charge fees and most traders do not pass. Nothing here is financial advice; figures can change, so verify current terms with the firm before purchasing.
